A&S BMW Motorcycle Kudos!

Check out this Awesome Customer Testimonial!! Toot! Toot!

A&S BMW Kudos/GSA mpg

——————————————————————————–

My wife and I just returned from a couple week trip on the GSA. Early one morning, as we were working our way out of the traffic created by the I-5 closure in downtown Sacramento, the clutch started acting up. We were at a stoplight and the bike sort of bunny hopped forward a couple of times while the clutch was fully in. I pulled over, shut the bike off, restarted, and the clutch effort felt normal, and seemed to be working fine. We pulled back into traffic, and a couple of lights later, while stopped with the clutch lever fully against the bar, the bike just started going forward at idle speed, as if the clutch wasn’t in at all. I quickly shut the bike off (thankfully I’m not one of those folks that pulls up close to the vehicle in front of me), and got to the side of the road. There was no parking, so after traffic cleared I fired the bike up, the clutch still wasn’t working, and felt very mushy, but I was able to get to a side street with safe parking. The fluid was full, and there were no leaks. I restarted the bike a couple of times and the lever was still mushy, and wouldn’t even pump up.

I called my dealer back home and the service fellow told me it sounded like air in the system, but said that normally that was accompanied by leaks. I called BMW roadside assistance. They dispatched a tow company. It was a 90 minute wait for the tow, but we were in a safe place. It is a long story itself, but suffice it to say that we were somewhat less than impressed with the tow company employee. He kept asking for directions, in very broken English, on how to get to where we were, even though I’d given him an exact address and explained that we didn’t live in the area. He had no idea where to hook on to the bike with the tie downs and it was really quite an ordeal, especially since his understanding of English was limited.

The closest dealer was A&S in Roseville, about 15 miles away. We had called ahead and were greeted right away, and in a matter of minutes after being unloaded the bike was in a service bay. We went inside to wait and were extremely impressed by the dealership. There are free video games and pinball, a refer full of a variety of drinks, nuts, cheeze-its, etc, computers with internet access, etc. Everyone that we encountered at A&S were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We were kept well informed about the status of the bike, and told that they make every effort to get travelers back on the road quickly. We were encouraged to take advantage of all of the dealership had to offer, and told we could take one of the demo bikes for a spin if we wished. Tim, the service manager has been there almost 40 years. He told us that it looked like the fluid was dirty and that they planned to flush and bleed the system and take it for a test spin. Apparently when the tech returned it acted up as he was pulling into the shop and he almost didn’t stop before hitting something. They then diagnosed that the master cylinder was bad. They didn’t have one in stock, but removed one from a new bike, which was awesome. It was quickly replaced and we were back on the road. It was the best service experience of my life. I talked with quite a few of their customers while we were waiting, and they all raved about the great service that they always receive.

My 07 GSA has about 8k miles on it now and the mileage still seems to be improving. With the panniers and top box full, and two-up, we ended up averaging about 45mpg over the course of the trip. That was a surprise, and slightly better than I’d been getting solo, so am assuming it’s because the motor is getting broken in. For some tanks of fuel we had a lot of time well over 70mph average, and had a couple of 100mph+ runs as we passed long lines of trucks (and a few groups of Harleys) on 395 in northern CA. There were a couple of days where the temperatures were over 100deg for most of the day.

The GSA continues to impress me with it’s comfort and versatility. I enjoy the long range offered by the bigger tank, even when gas is plentiful.

Rider Appreciation Day BMW Continues the Tradition of Rider Appreciation Events at Daytona

We all know that Daytona Bike Week is not exactly a rider’s paradise. Yes, it’s justly famous for manic Main Street nightlife and tacky storefronts. And there are plenty of motorcycles. But for many BMW riders, the novelty of the spectacle wears off quickly. That’s why almost every year, BMW supplements a full week of demo rides and static motorcycle displays with a “rider appreciation” event at Daytona.

Tech Tips from Teach McNeil TECH TIPS by Chris “Teach” McNeil

As with any potentially dangerous activity, before you get started you have to be properly prepared. People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan; and that’s the same attitude you need to take when hopping aboard your motorcycle, whether it be for a jaunt down the street, a rally, racing or some freestyle riding. The first bit of preparation needs to be to your motorcycle.

Thanks for the support A&S BMW Motorcycles!

Here’s a nice testimonial that we received the other day. Thought I’d post this up!

I thought that it would be very appropriate to thank you for the clinics that were held at your facility this past weekend. It was all such great information. For you to allow us to access your shop on Sunday was truly amazing. I know nothing about taking motorcycles apart and putting them back together. Seeing Ryan and Jimmy helping some of the guys work on their bikes was an unusual opportunity to look inside another world and gave me a better appreciation of what they and you all do. I saw the CHP bike in the back with the engine out of it and the “carcass” hanging on the rack and wondered how they’re ever going to get that back together again!

Phil gave a great presentation on motorcycle first aid on Saturday. I was at the “Garden Party” version of Phil’s presentation several months ago. I learned just as much on his presentation last Saturday.

Several years ago my wife purchased a jacket for me from your store. There was a defect in it and when I brought it back on Sunday afternoon. When I walked in I laid my sunglasses down on the counter where Virginia now sits. I went over to the parts counter and dropped off my coat. In the 5 minutes it took me to do that I walked back over to pick up my glasses and they were gone. There were only about 3 people in the place and I thought that one of your guys got them. I swore never to come back. Look at what happened. I never found the glasses but I’m positive that it was not one of your people and I’ve supported your store for the past 3 years or so gladly.

Thanks for being such a positive force for River City Beemers and all the other bike riders in the area. I continually see you going out of your way to support safe motorcycling and motorcycle knowledge. As I have said before you run a great store and it’s my pleasure to drop by from time to time to visit my friends at A&S Powersports. Thanks again.

APRIL BEEMERFILE CORRECTION

We would like to post a correction regarding the statement we made about the fuel quick disconnects. The email contained a comment from the pre-production of the Beemer File which was not removed before sending the finalized version.

The posting should have read:
Metal quick disconnects for your fuel system made from Die-cast Zinc with a nickel plated finish.
These connectors have upgraded Viton O-rings, which have a longer service life than rubber based o-rings when exposed to petroleum products such as fuel or oil.
Similar to the OEM plastic connectors, these have the internal shut-off valve on both the male and female connector so fuel stops flowing when disconnected.

Recap of March’s Rawhyde Adventures GaragenPartei

I’m sorry that I don’t have any pictures to post, but I was seriously having way too much fun to be bothered to take photos. We had an awesome group of people here last night, and Jim was a great speaker. He told us things we all knew at one time, but to hear him made you remember and realize that that’s exactly what you’d been doing wrong! His demonstration on target fixation was hilarious yet poignant. If you ever get the chance to meet Jim, you really should.

He also told us about his upcoming Adventure Riders Challenge; www.adventureriderchallenge.com that looks like an absolute blast. I’m seriously considering attending, though not competing - I don’t need to have my booty handed to me - I like it where its at!

Thanks again Jim!!!!!!

Free Megan, Help the MDA!

blog_poster.jpgCLICK HERE TO DONATE!

Here’s a great chance to help an awesome cause and have some fun in the process!

April 30th 2008 A&S’s own Megan McLeer (under “direction” from her cruel boss) will be held for ransom by the local Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of their Roseville Lock-Up (I’ll be there supervising)

The way this works is that around noon on the fateful day Megan is going to get hauled away by the local constabulary and held at a restaurant (Carvers) until such time as she is able to post “bail” of at least $1,600.

We’re asking our local and internet community of friends and customers to help us help the MDA to make this a great event.

Click here to go to the MDA’s donation page and help us raise Megan’s bail! Please give generously because I need Megan back or I’m going to have to actually do some real work!

As an added bonus, anyone that donates over $100 will get a nifty poster (that is obviously a little more than an homage to a certain pop artist) signed by our model/jail-bird and the artist (me). Wow… Who wouldn’t want that?! :)

In case you’d like a little more information about where your money would go, or how it will be used to help, here’s some figures:

Contribution Service(s)
$25 Flu Shot
$85 One minute of research
$100 One support group session
$150 One physical, occupational or respiratory therapy consultation
$200 Professional fees related to initial diagnostic work-up at an MDA clinic
$500 Assists one person for one year with the repair of a wheelchair or leg braces
$650 Sends one child to MDA summer camp
$1,200 Pays for one year of Support Group meetings helping families cope with the challenges of neuromuscular disease
$2,000 Assists one person with the purchase of a wheelchair, leg braces or communication device
$3,900 Pays for an hour of MDA’s research seeking treatments and cures for more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
$6,500 Sends 10 of ‘Jerry’s kids’ to MDA summer camp for a week of fun and recreation geared to their abilities.

So as you can probably tell, the MDA 1) Does a lot of really good stuff for people, and 2) They need a lot of money to do it.

Personally, Megan and I (not “together” of course) are both fortunate enough to be parents of happy and healthy children and we both feel that this is a great cause to get behind and (in a small way) help the children and their families that need the medical attention and the research that the MDA provides.

So if you can, please help out.
